How long does a custom software project take?
As a guide, Discovery takes 2–4 weeks, Prototype 4–6 weeks and Delivery 2–3 months, so a typical build is live inside six months. Larger platforms take longer and are released in stages. You get a firm timeline at the end of Discovery, before you commit to the build.
What does custom software cost?
Focused builds that replace one spreadsheet or workflow usually start in the tens of thousands. Full operational platforms with portals, integrations and mobile apps run into the hundreds of thousands over their first few years. Every project gets a fixed estimate out of Discovery. Isn't off-the-shelf software cheaper?
In year one, usually. Over five years, often not. Off-the-shelf comes with per-seat licence fees, paid add-ons and the manual work that lives around a tool that almost fits. Custom software is a one-off build plus support, with no per-seat fees, and it becomes an asset your business owns.
What if we're not sure custom software is the right answer?
Start with Discovery. It's a standalone, fixed-price engagement: we map your workflows, pin down the real problem and hand you a scoped roadmap with an estimate. You keep everything, with no obligation to build with us. If off-the-shelf is the better answer, we'll tell you.
Can you take over or rebuild a system someone else built?
Yes, and we do it often. We take over software built by other developers, have moved Microsoft Access databases to the web without losing a record or a rule, and rebuilt the platform behind Worksafe Guardian while its app stayed in market. The business keeps running while we work.
Who does the work, and where?
Our own team, in Adelaide. Strategists, designers, developers and support all sit in the one office, working under ISO 9001 certified processes. Nothing is outsourced or offshored, and the people who scope your project are the people who build it.
Do we own the software?
Yes. The source code, documentation and infrastructure built for you are yours, and you can take them to another supplier at any time.
What happens after launch?
Launch is the midpoint, not the end. The same team offers support agreements with written response targets, managed hosting on AWS, and a roadmap of improvements as your business changes. Many of our clients have been with us for over a decade.
